ADHD and dual credit early college?

My son is ADHD and 16 and making Cs in a private school he doesn't like. An area charter school has open enrollment to graduate with an Associates degree and diploma. It's 5 core classes and requires a foriegn language. These are college classes with the average age of 29. His dr. said he would lean towards not saying No but my husband and I are like "we need to take our heads out of the sand, this is for bright, high achieving kids who want to be in college at 16"... My son doesn't particularly like the idea of working so hard but is wanting so badly to make a change.
Could this be a disaster or can these kinds of kids make it work?

I think it should be his decision. If he wants to - then he should go for it. If he isn't sure - then allow his actions to make the decision for him and show you how motivated he is.

Tell him you'll support him in his decision, but do nothing more. Allow HIM to do all he needs to do (fill out the paperwork, make the necessary appointments, schedule interviews, drive his body to the interview, schedule/fill out paperwork for the necessary admissions tests, etc) Any contact you have with the school can be without your son present and really needs to be approached as college (he's an adult now) work.

It is my experience that if a young student is motivated enough to do all this by himself WITHOUT the parent intervening or "helping" them by providing them with anything other than the blank check, he will be more likely to be motivated and successful.

If you have to schedule or remind him of the SAT or do ANY paperwork for him at all, he won't/isn't motivated or mature enough for this program and will likely fail anyway. Better to have him start when he is ready than have him fail now when he might not be.

Good Luck!!
