My dog is crazy active and he acts like he has ADHD.what can i do?

he is a pure-bread miniature schnauzer about 2 years old

The best thing you can do is find something for the two of you to do! Look into local agility clubs! Have fun teaching him new tricks, let him RUN! Check into flyball, or jumpers! Just make sure you're giving him lots and lots of fun things to do! Also, invest in a Kong. Stuff it with peanut butter, and freeze it. After it's nice and cold, give it to him. You should get a little time to yourself!

You want to talk about hyper? I have a Jack Russell Terrier, AKA Bumble Bee on a leash, and an Akita/Alaskan Husky, AKA Bucking Bronco.

I chose these breeds simply because I love them, and from experiencing which breeds, and types within the breed I most gravitate towards, I seem to prefer working type dogs over their show cousins.

My Jack Russell began to calm down some when she reached somewhere between 3 and 4 years of age. It was at that point where you could finally have her sit on your lap for more than 2 seconds at a time. Recently she just turned 6, and definitely enjoys having her period of the day where she can rest. However, if you get her going, she's back to her puppyhood and full of energy. Not to mention that my Akita/Alaskan Husky just turned 1 year old, and is still a puppy, so she gives my Jack someone to chase around at will.

I found the absolute best place for my JRT to expend her energy was at the local dog park. I take her on a couple of walks a day anyways, but the dog park truly allows her to run free, and take off like greased lightning weaving all over the place.

Bottom line:

-Walk your dog at least twice a day.
-Find a dog park, and go as often as you can.
-Know that your dog will slow down in the next couple of years.
-Be willing to throw some toys around in the house, and even chase your dog a little when you might feel like getting into the action.
-If you have your dog caged up (kenneled), make sure you let him out as often as you can. (Since my JRT reached about 4, we now leave her out of her kennel 24/7, while the puppy stays in hers until we are home).

Follow that basic guideline, and not only will you be better enabled to handle the energy, you and your dog will also form a closer bond as well.

exercise him. walk him. at least 2 hours a day. get a backpack for him, put something slightly heavy in it, they are a working breed so they need to feel like they have a purpose. he just has energy to burn. so help him burn it. If you have a bike, take him for a bike run. great for you and for him. try and find play mates for him as well so burn off some energy that way. good luck.

do a search for dog parks in your area. Usually they are a lot that is fenced in a couple acres in size that they can run around andinteract with other dogs. I take mine as often as possible, usually he is worn out after we go and he sleeps all night.

Get his @ss neutered. Actually I really don't think that crap works.

I guess you have no choice but to deal with it.

Sorry I couldn't be more sympathetic but I own 4 Jack Russell's. If you anything about the breed, then you know that I got my hands full.

take them on a walk it will com them down and do it every day and they wont be so hyper.

Get him a companion that wants to chase him around. My 1 year old Jack Russell is crazy active, but she plays with my other two dogs and has finally calmed down. They run her all around!

Bred you mean.

Exercise and train your dog. That's the best way to "calm" an active dog.

schnauzers are hyper usually anyway... but a benadryl every now and then never hurts.

especially at night.
