My aunt has two really out of control kids. one with adhd(no medicine) and one who just sits on the computer.? |
but when they get together the don't listen to her when she tells them to stop. they laugh at her and hit her...they scream and just keep hitting each other...what should she do? First of all this has nothing to do with ADHD and the use of meds or not. This has to do with parenting and lack of consistency and discilpine. If your aunt isnt asking for advice and seeking to change these things its just a true testimony to what I am saying She has not conditioned her kids to authority or to respect her. Thats most likely due to not discipling and turning a blind eye to her children. To change it now she has to ask for help from professionals or allow it to continue. You can do nothing for her. She needs to aknowledge the issues and seek parenting help herself. She needs to take control of the children. The ADHD might just be a child with no discipline. It is FAR to widely spread out among kids that are actually not being disciplined. I'd start with a family meeting and let them know, in a stern voice that enough was enough. Lay out the rules and let them know what the punishment will be for whatever they did wrong. No "please" or begging voice. It has to be done like a drill sergeant, like she means it. And if they step out of line she has to follow through, each and every time. They aren't going to stop if there is no consequences. Hi Christina, from your description it does seem like a parenting problem. If indeed both kids show ADHD-like symptoms, and they are not ready for meds, then maybe eating a well-balanced diet can do the trick. Studies have shown that being deficient in certain vitamins and minerals can cause learning and behavioural problems. You can get more info from this site: Are there no belts in her home ? Maybe you should buy her one as a later mothers day gift. Nanny911? |
