I am doing a paper and would like peoples input on ADHD?

If you have add or adhd what happens in your life that separates you from people who dont have it?

I tend to be accident prone
I require a small amount of distraction in order to concentrate . However too many distractions are just as bad as no distractions
I tend to be somewhat abrupt /rude in social situations when i find myself being forced to listen to a person that goes on and on about something
I simply don't have the patience to listen to such things
I can't relax by sitting still Movement -preferably fast -relaxes me
Like all ADD people to say inappropriate things at inappropriate times
I can use the great ADD secret of hyper-focusing to my advantage . I actually drive better at 70mph in pouring rain then I do on a perfectly dry & sunny day and hyper -focusing is the reason
I can drive 1000 miles any day any of the week sleep 5 hours and do it again
I get frustrated easily and angry as a result .
Caffiene relaxes me as does driving at 100 mph for long periods of time
I'll think of more

Before I was diagnosed, I was very forgetful, always losing my keys, the remote etc... It also causes me to hyper-focus, sometimes on things that just don't matter or are unimportant. I was also really bad about keeping appointments or showing up on time. All of this is because I become distracted, and then hyper-focus on the thing which caused the distraction.

I was diagnosed recently at 39 years of age, and lived with this my whole life. It only gets worse with age, and if untreated, is linked to early onset Alzheimers disease. In recent years, I slept less and less, until I was only getting 2 or 3 hours of sleep nightly. It literally became a debilitating condition for me, and I saw a psychiatrist for treatment. It is very important to treat it. I'm currently taking a drug called Focalin, 5 mg twice daily, and it has been a lifesaver. I still hyperfocus, but the difference now is that I can control what I focus on. This is helpful when studying or doing something creative.

I hope this helps.

I was always a bit scattered, but just worked harder and ignored it.
As an adult it brought on insomnia, and I believe as a result: alcoholism. Just to shut up all the stuff in my brain :( I can be hyperfucosed and speak four languages, but lose my car in parking lots all the time. I'm polite, but easily frustrated and agitated. And I have a lot of guilt about my shortcomings. And, probably minor depression for feeling so sorry all the time.
I'm currently working through a bunch of meds to help me sort it.
To see me on the street, I'm happy and smiling. But ADHD for a 30 year old is devastating.
Good luck on your paper on a tough subject!

besides the fact that i will completely change the subject at random because if i think of something i'll say it otherwise i'll lose it...ummm....i can't sit still for long periods of time without feeling like i'm going to go crazy.

i'm also a big klutz becasue i can't sit still, and i get distracted easily...so i've been in the ER a lot.
