Hmmm......ADHD question...????

Well, lucky me, I think I may have a touch of ADHD. Not that I really care. But I have two cousins who have it rather severely, and an uncle to. I am 23 now, but when I was little I was VERy hyper. In adolescence I lost my yperactivity and did badly in school because I couldn't concentrate. Literally after 2 minutes I'd tune out no matter how hard I tried.

I was also always restless and often impulsive. Now that I'm in uni (and I got in by the skin of my teeth) we can listen to our lectures online, and the amount of times I need to rewind/backtrack....my god I just can't seem to focus.

Is this just normal inatentiveness or something more?? All my friends are like 'yeah, I can't concentrate either', but i'm serious I really think I have a problem with it. I just want someone who knows a bit about ADHD to give me their opinion!

Also I find it impossible to be organised. Even for simple things. I'm bad at planning and following things through. My short term memory is not great either. I find it very hard to focus on anything even when it is interesting...

ADD/ADHD does seem to have a strong genetic component (although they really don't know just how strong).

The ways in which this neurological disorder affects people's lives is a lot more serious than many people realize. Not only does it effect school, but also employment and all kinds of relationships. It leads to a consistent sense of failure and that leads to depression.

It drives me crazy when people don't take it seriously....but they only do that because they do not understand.

The first book I would recommend is Healing ADD by Daniel Amen (he also has a website....I think it's www.amenclinics.com)

Also "Out of the Fog"
and "You mean I'm not lazy, stupid, or crazy?"

And a great web resource is

If I can be of anymore help, please feel free to let me know!

there are chances that u might have ADHD. usually, adults with undiagnosed ADHD lose the hyperactivity part of it as they grow up, but continue to have the attention deficit part of it . why dont u get urself checked out asap?

Amber J, people your age do have lots of distractions due to many factors - hormonal change, boyfriends, peer pressure, study stress etc. Having adhd-like symptoms does not automatically mean you have ADHD. Rather than run to your doctor for help, I would suggest you take a good look at your diet first. Many studies have shown that a poor diet can cause the kind of problems you are facing. You can get info on viatmins for adhd, and adhd diet from this popular site:

Good luck to your studies, Amber J, and may you graduate with flying colours.
