Adhd medicine and heart problems?

I take concerta and ive been seeing on the news lately that the medicine can effect the heart, and i have sudden random chest pains, i dont know if there my lungs or what but i stop what im doing and it hurts pretty bad, i cant/dont want to move until it goes away. ive been complaining about this for years and i didnt think i could do much about it. Is the only alternative to stop taking the medicine?

Any stimulant is going to have those kinds of effects. (Chest pains, etc) However, there are non stimulant ADD/ADHD meds. One of those is Stratera. I've heard good reports on it and my husband is on it and he said it works for him a lot better than those "speed" like pills. Just what I have seen. However, you should remember, that all medications affect people differently. We all have different systems and every medication messes with our system in a various manners. My suggestion: Try something else.

I took Concerta once and it gave me chest pains (angina) as well. Concerta is a stimulant, as are most ADD/ADHD meds. I quit taking the meds because of side effects. I just live alone now and function much better. I do not know if that would be a good idea for you.

You should discuss the problem with your doctor. If he seems helpless, go get a second opinion - preferably one who is well versed with ADHD. The thing about meds for ADHD is that what works for one person may not work for you and vice versa.

Good luck.
