How many people do you think that are on meds for ADD/ADHD actually have it?

I know that b4 I got on adderall I'd miss red lights because I couldn't see they were read, couldn't focus in class, was really hyperactive, got into 6 car accidents, and well yeah it was like going from seeing everything all at once and just being everwhere, unable to focus on squat, but once I got on my meds it was luck I got tunnel vision and I could FINALLY get stuff done, I don't even DRIVE w/o my meds it's that bad!

So how many out of 100 would you say ACTUALLY need ADD meds and how many are TOTALLY mis-diagnosed and don't need them? I'm anxious to hear!

That really varies depending on the area and the local "press" about ADHD. In areas where people don't know very much about it, its under-diagnosed, but it can be over-diagnosed in areas where it is well-understood. Unfortunately, some teachers just don't want to deal with energetic but NOT ADHD kids and try to get them on drugs just to shut them up, which can make it harder for those of us who really have ADHD to get the help we need.

Sometimes I think I have ADD because I am totally unable to focus on things and always jump from one task to the next without really completing much. But I have also had depression so I always thought my behaviour was just a symptom of depression. Did u get diagnosed as an adult, because I read that it is usually diagnosed in childhood?

Why do you need to know? I am grateful I dont need them. I am sure the GP's do their very best and they are human after all.
