Is there a difference between ADHD and ADD?

Within the past few years friends/family have teased me about "getting checked out for ADD".Yes,it's jokingly,but after a while you wonder.I've taken several online "questionaires" regarding ADD and each one said strong liklihood of ADD but no hyperactivity.I went to my doctor to talk about this and throughout the whole conversation he kept saying ADHD as if there were no difference between the 2.He said I would have had problems with hyperactivity as a child.Based on my research this isn't true with ADD.I've had these miserable symptoms for about 6 or 7 years now,but some of them for as far back as I can remember.Can't sit through tv shows but can watch a movie with no commercials,severe procrastination,never finish any tasks,bounce from one project or activity to another before finishing it,impulsive, etc. It's frustrating because about a year ago I started my own business after being a 10 year stay at home mom. It's affecting my work and I'd really like to get this under control.

Also, is there a difference in medications used for the 2? What is typically used for ADD?

Luckmed, the difference between add and adhd is clearly explained here:

It sounds like you do have ADHD. You best bet is to be put on medication. Really the doctor is the one who decides what medication you are put on. Some of the meds are;
Concerta, Ritalin LA, Focalin XR, or Metadate CD, Adderall, Adderall XR, Vyvanse, Dextrostat, and Dexedrine, Strattera and some doctors will use Wellbutrin.
Again the choice is your doctor who will use the best medication and/or combination of therapies for you.
Cheers~!

Attention - deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is the proper name. It only requires that the patient meets either the criteria for inattentiveness or the criteria for hyperactivity-impulsivity (though most patients fulfill both). You do refer impulsivity. Your diagnosis (based on what you say) would be Attention - deficit/hyperactivity disorder, Predominantly Inattentive type. Medication is the same for all types of ADHD.

As a retired shrink I saw many adults who fit your profile. All were helped with medication, the choice of which is up to you MD. Seek out a practitioner who is familiar with this d/o
