My mom thinks I can control ADHD even though I can't?

ADHD runs on my Dad's side of the family so despite what shes says she doesn't know what it's like. She thinks that just because I'm about turn 15 I can cotnrol my behavior, even though I stated I can't.

I refuse to take meds, because it makes me moody, and some other things.

Anywho, shes makes me feel like it's a bad and terrible thing that I act hyper, however, even though I say "I try to control it, but I can't". I realize that ADHD doesn't make me act the way I do completely, but it plays some role.

She says that ADHD is no reason to act "hyper", and it's just an excuse to act the way I do.

"She says that ADHD is no reason to act "hyper", and it's just an excuse to act the way I do."

WTF? Is she even aware of the diagnostic criteria for ADHD? She's being an ***. It's the same as saying to her "Look, you've been menstruating for years now, you should be able to be non-bloated and happy before your period."

ADHD is a neurological condition, not bad behaviour.

Well maybe you need to tell your mom to talk to a doctor or even look it up on the internet, and she will see you can NOT control it. Well, the only way you could is to take your damn medicine, but even that doesn't fix everything. hopefully, she will soon enough get it through her head that it is a sickness, not just a phase or a cry for attention.

You can have your mom give me a call. I'm an adult with adhd. I can talk to her about it.

I have been researching ADHD and how to help people with it without medication.

Also, there are some new eproducts coming out that discuss the gift of adhd and behavior issues. That certainly is something that your mom will benefit from.

Ok very confusing. But anyways you can't control it. that's proabably what most people will say, you can take medicine to keep it controlled or lowered the problems that might come with it.

Too bad you can't get a new mom. She does not sound very understanding. Sorry about that. She does not know what she is talking about.

Hi, sorry to hear about your problem. ADHD itself is tough, but when your parents don't want to have anything to do with it, the problem grows in magnitude. Since you hate meds and your mother is not keen to bring you to see a doc, give this a try then:

(1) Use common vitamins and minerals. Studies have shown they are effective in addressing many behavioural and learning problems. You can get more info on the kind of vitamins from here:

(2) Take up a physical exercise and stick with it on a REGULAR basis. Exercises helps your body and brain a lot.

Give these 2 methods the benefit of the doubt, meaning you should give it time to work.

I wish you good health and a successful future.
