I have ADHD and am on Adderall, is there any depression medicine that will help with my axniety too?

your anxiety is most likely from the adderall. you should see if your doctor can switch you to something else. My daughter had the same thing and they put her on Strattera, she loves it. It still controls he ADD and she has no anxiety issues.

Anxiety is often a side effect of Adderall, and stimulant medications in general (as other answerers have said). If your anxiety began after your started taking medication, or always occurs at certain times of the day (i.e. when the Adderall starts taking effect or when it starts to wear off) this is probably the case. Before deciding to take another medication for the anxiety, you should talk to your psychiatrist or doctor about this and perhaps try a different medication.

Anxiety may also be a symptom of your ADHD itself. If you worry mainly about your ADHD symptoms and their consequences, or it stems from your racing thoughts, your anxiety may subside once your ADHD symptoms are under control (if they are not already).

Finally, if you definitely feel that an antidepressant or anti-anxiety med is right for you, Xanax is a good choice if you'll be taking it in addition to your Adderall. However, there are some antidepressants, especially tricyclics like Wellbutrin, that have been used successfully to treat ADHD, so switching to a medication like this may be the answer for you.

Xanax (alrazolam) is good for anxiety, as well as Valium (diazepam). Neither will cause an interaction with your Adderall. As for antidepressants that also help with anxiety, ask about an SSRI (Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitor) or an SNRI (Serotonin- Norepinephrine Reuptake Inhibitor). SSRIs are typically prescribed, but the SNRIs make more norepi available, as well; one of the major neurotransmitters depleted due to the Adderall. I was on Adderall for a while, but it made me different, I didn't laugh as much!!! It actually can CAUSE anxiety in some people(as it did for me). I was on an SNRI to get rid of that anxious, unhappy feeling. I am now a PA and done with school, so I went off all the meds, and I feel awesome! It was ABSOLUTELY necessary during school, though :) Good luck to ya, hun :)

xanax is the best one to be on with adderall. No its not a depression med but its calms you from the adderall and takes away the panic attacks allowing you to feel normal and calmer. And it is very common to perscribe them with each other. Paxil is suppose to help with depression and anxiety but I was on paxil and never get on it. Its something that makes you a shell of your formal self. Paxil whipes away all emotions and you are a robot. Not safe. Still with an adderall and xanax. worked GREAT for me. I was on paxil, then put on xanax and adderall its been great

There are several medications that address both depression and anxiety, but your personal physician would be the professional to help decide what medication or combination of medications will work for you.

Some medications take several weeks before the complete effect is felt, so stay in close contact with your doctor and you will be able to find a dosage and/or combination for your specific case.
