How does a cup of coffee affect people with ADHD?

How does a cup of coffee affect people with ADHD?

A moderate amount of caffeine can actually help settle a person with ADHD. Depending on the circumstances, it is even sometimes prescribed to ADHD sufferers to help with symptoms.

It varies from person to person, as ADHD does not uniformly present itself, i.e. some people are more hyperactive, some are more inattentive, others are a mix of both.

The common sense indicates coffee would not be good for someone with ADHD, and this may be true. However, there is a growing body of literature that the caffeine mimics Ritalin and other stimulants, and allows those with more inattentive type ADHD to actually focus and attend.

LoL at the first answer, ignorance is bliss hu?

Me and all three kids drink coffee, or anything else with high amounts of caffeine. Three of us are diagnosed with adhd, one of my kids has no diagnoses he is not like us as far as "hyper" H in adhd.

Two of us were on the drugs for it, notice "were". They were a huge mistake!!

Myself caffeine calms my butt down. I have been drinking it for over 30 years now!! Of course water needs to be drank with it and one needs to really eat right.
It is a drug just like anything else.....

My youngest likes his with milk, weaker then me. He falls to sleep!
My oldest likes those energy drinks that are so full of caffeine, he also drinks the mochas/esspressos. It calms him down as well.

I had a doctors appointment to have adhd drugs again. He noticed my coffee cup and pointed it out being a natural drug for adhders. I told him I learned it from my mother.
He so wanted to sell me his drugs but after I called him a legal drug dealer he backed off.

Like any drug caffeine needs to be manipulated and such as to the person using it.

Caffeine is in many pills these days, if people just new all they had to do is drink something with caffeine (coffee, tea, soda, energy drinks, on and on) it is so much cheaper then the pill they are trying to push off on you with a different name!!

apparently, if you have ADHD, caffeine has the opposite affect, it actually CALMS the person, i only know because my sis had mild ADHD and the docs told my mom to let her have caffeine, with me, my mom won't let me near it after 4:00, if i have it, i'll be bouncing off the walls :)

ADD is a brain disorder .

It is a shortage of dopamine in the right half of the brain.

Dopamine is needed for concentration .

Stimulants like speed calm you down.

In normal brains speed makes you high.

This would be a test for ADD.

Fish oil cured a boy of ADD in the UK.

TV show on it.

Caffeine tends to make a person with ADHD calm while it causes others to have increased energy. I use to sip down caffeine drinks so that I could study.

Hope that answers your questions. let me know if you have any other questions.
