Can unteated ADHD lead to Generalized anxiety disorder?

Can unteated ADHD lead to Generalized anxiety disorder?

ADHD often leads to anxiety, especially when it is untreated. This is often because of the amount of negative feedback people with ADHD get (i.e. teachers yelling at them, parents becoming frustrated, some social isolation), and their fear of getting in trouble in the future.

Anxiety can also be a result of the impulsivity that is often a symptom of ADHD; people with the disorder sometimes become anxious they will embarrass themselves or do/say something socially unacceptable without thinking it through first.

Anxiety that stems from ADHD is usually specific to a person's ADHD symptoms or experience. Generalized Anxiety Disorder, on the other hand, is characterized by an almost constant worry about a variety of events, situations, etc. This anxiety leads to restlessness, trouble sleeping, and other symptoms.

But, while anxiety that is a part of ADHD is usually not the kind associated with GAD, this does not mean that it is impossible to have both disorders, and to have GAD as a result of ADHD.

They are two different conditions that sometimes interact with each other. I think each one could cause the other one. For ex. if you have ADHD, you would probably feel anxious as a result. However, you may have ADHD and an anxiety disorder. You should continue to try and seek out what is really going on. Contact a therapist if need be. Anything to make yourself better.

Yes, or at least an anxiety problem.
