How can I relax with adhd?


I find it extremely difficult to just sit down and relax or get to sleep. When I try to i get really fidgity and hyper. i dont really want to try meds or any of the herbal stuff though. ive tried stress balls and those dont do much. music doesnt seem to help either. it just seems the longer i sit and try to relax the more hyper i get. i dont really want to talk to a doctor either becuase i cant afford one. does anyone have any suggestions?

Yeah i have ADHD too. Try reading before u sleep, doing something REALLY active before u sleep. UMM to help focus try eating/chewing something hard or sucking on something hard(jolly ranchers, gum, pretzels, frozen peas). To calm down u can also try blowing through a straw. And if ur in class and need to fidget try squeezing some silly putty or something similar. GOOD LUCK

Watching a video tape of an aquarium can help to relax you at bedtime. Sometimes you can obtain free or low cost counseling through your community mental health center. If you really have ADHD, it is a neurological disorder. People with ADHD have a difficult time stopping all of their thoughts when it is bedtime. I know that you are opposed to medications. However, medication can be used on a trial basis just to determine the effects. You might find that it is helpful since some people with ADHD sleep better if they take a small dose 30 minutes prior to bedtime.

If you want to relax you first have to eliminate what is causing or making your adhd. The following are the bad habits americans often do which can lead to adhd.

-Smoking, Ecstascy, Mariyruana. (other drugs).
-Taken in food high in refined sugar/carbs.
-Staring in computer/t.v screen too long.
-Playing too much video games.
-Overmasturbation.
-Not enough excerise
-lack of omega 3's in diet.

It has been found by many researchers that TV and GAMES are the main cause of brain weakness and memory loss.

If all else fails you can try a dip in the Sauna that always helps me relax and focus.

Edit: This regards too a.d.d not adhd. I don't know the exact differences but in my opinion adhd is pretty much the same as add but effected on younger people mostly children and teens to young adults therefore they get the added hyperactivity. (Like their minds are racing all the time)

try a yoga class, work out in the afternoon, stay away from energy drinks/caffiene, breathe, read,

check your diet- veggies, whole grains, proteins are good. White flour, carbs, sugar- bad. I think most importantly set a routine for relaxing/going to bed.

Sometimes when I have anxiety...I write down everything that is going through my mind.....then I don't stress that I'm going to forget anything. Keep a journal by your bed.

Reaching out for help is a great step, now follow through and commit to trying. Be patient with yourself! Good luck!

First thing in the morning
look at your palms ,kiss them
get down the bed touch the ground then touch your head and say ,"I am not suffering from ADHD, please help."
Take a glassful of warm water,stroll for 5 /6 minutes,take another glass of water.
Keep chanting ,"I am no suffering from any disease".
Mind ! there is no disease like ADHD.My dear medicines,herbs and medics can't help.It is YOU who has the power to heal because you are part of GOD.If HE can heal then why can't YOU.?
Meditate at 4 a.m.daily.Play football for two hours daily.AND experience the change.

and get into some form of physical exercise too. Any exercise will do, but the key thing is DO IT REGULARLY.

Studies have shown that eating right, avoiding junk food plus regular exercises can do wonders for problems like yours.

eureka! i have the perfect solution!
all you need is a video game. it gets you involved and puts your hyperactivity to good use without you getting to spazzy like i do when i drink too much soda.
i honestly dont see a downside to using video games for adhd relaxation. as long as you dont do just that one thing for the whole day.

Have you ever tried feingold diet? Sometimes additives in foods can couse to adhd. Feingold diet calculates your bmi (basal metabolic rate) and suggest you how much calories you need. You may want to try it.

have you tried relaxation music or binaural beats they may be of assistance

also taking part in an activity that requires you to use a lot of energy
