Is my 4 year old son too young for ADHD medication?

My 4 year old son seems out of control, he dont listen and seems to enjoy punishment. He has a busy body and mouth, i mean it never stops he could be up until 2am wich is not unusual and get up early and still not go to sleep at a decent hour. I feel like hes always looking for trouble im worried!

No, and as a person with ADHD and the mom of 3 kids 2 with it my answer is a solid NO. Around 3rd grade they almost moved 2 of my kids to a special school because they were seen as retarded (delayed 4 years). A few weeks later after meds all of a sudden they were only delayed 2 years. 1 year later they weren't delayed at all. Unless you want all he learns at school, home, socially, to go in one ear and out the other give it to him. All those anti med people on their high horses never had a kid with serious ADHD or they would know. My 18 year old without ADD is on her way to college, Captian of the HS cheer team. The oldest boy stopped meds at 13, is a 21 year old gifted musician, never in trouble with the law. Class valedictorian from his alternative high school, nicely employed and living in his own place. His 19 year old sister, stopped the meds against medical advice at 11. by 14 she was pregnant from a x crack baby in her special ed class. She is now preg with her 3rd kid from the 3rd guy. She enjoys the homeless thrill seeking life, guess who is raising her kids? Me. You will always be judged by your worst child.

Different doctors have a different take on this. Some say "yes", others say "no". In your case, the important thing is not to self medicate. If you want to bring him to see a doctor, a child psychiatrist is best because generally they have the most training on ADHD. Don't bring him to just any doctor because most of them don't know much about ADHD. Good luck.

defenetly yes
