Is it true that Karate can have a positive affect on people with ADHD?

I have read that children with ADHD have had tremendous results with after taking Karate. Is this also true of adults with ADHD?

I am an adult with ADHD, how would I know which karate would be best for me, if true?

Studies have shown that people with ADHD should be encouraged to indulge in some from of physical exercises as they are beneficial to them. As to your question whether karate will do you good, I suppose the only way to find out is to join a dojo and attend classes on a REGULAR basis.

Even is the results are not as expected, I think you should stick with it if you like it because its good for your physical conditioning, and your general health. In addition to that, you now possess the skill to protect yourself. Good luck.

I personally don't care much for Karate. I think it is a terrible self defense technique.

It may help people with ADHD if it is something you can get interested in. Good exercise always helps and when you are forced to sit still and to hold good concentration, then it may help you train yourself.

There are other things you will want to consider. One of them is a diet change. What you take into your body has a direct effect on how you feel and how your mind functions.

You may also have a mineral deficiency, and a good liquid vitamin and mineral supplement can help with that. We all need minerals since we don't get very many in our food these days.

Feel free to contact me with any questions.

Alot of different martial arts helps with ADHD because it is a sport that has alot to do with concetration.

Personally, I'd choose aikido if you want one that is less "in your face". I did it for awhile. It has alot to do with outwitting and escaping situations and the arts rather than offensive attacking. Not to mention, any people at any age or size can do it. I know people in my class as young as nine and adults who were all beginners

Karate could help. A lot of karate training is about concentrating.
