What are the positive and negative effects ov adhd or add medications?

What are the positive and negative effects ov adhd or add medications?

Positive effects include a reduction in hyperactivity, impulsivity, and distractibility. People have the ability inhibit thoughts so that they can stay focused on one topic. Negative effects include decreased appetite, insomnia, stomach aches, and headaches. Sometimes the medication can increase tics. Some children appear to have their personalities depressed when the take stimulant medications. This appears to be unusual. If one experiences negative effects, sometimes they just go away as you get used to the medication. If not, you can ask your physician to try another medication.

Medications for ADHD is likely one of the most controversial and highly debated topics today. I share this because you have to be careful about the answers you are told.

From people who find medication to be helpful, I have been told that it gives them the ability to focus more on what needs to be done instead of trying to manage everything around them. A simple example could be having an easier time remembering where you put your keys. I have also heard that ADHD medications allow an individual to focus more on completing tasks than on managing emotions and distractions (that often take a great deal of energy away from tasks).

As for the negative effects - depending upon who you ask - you are likely to hear a major range of "side effects." They can range from loss of appetite to difficulty sleeping, with some even suggesting (in rare cases) heart condition and death.

I would strongly encourage you to speak with a medical doctor (preferably a psychiatrist) about the specific side-effects of medications used to treat ADHD. There are a good number of them today, and I imagine the positive and negative effects are going to be different for each person.

Good luck,

Rory

positive........being able to concentrate, have a calm feeling on the inside, mind not all over the place.......
negative effects are the opposite of the things that are positive.....not getting the right amount of meds or not getting the right one that fits you. Remember we are all different and what may work for me may make you angry. But give the meds some time to work, 7 to 10 days, but don't give up cause the meds can make your life easier to deal with at school or work. good luck, sweetie
