Does it seems like ADHD is such an epidemic nowadays? |
It seems like ADHD is such an epidemic nowadays. Do you believe this condition is genuine, or are we trying to put a label on bad behavior? I do not have an opinion either way. I am interested in your input. The disease is real but the total sum of those on meds are there for all the wrong reasons. Busy working mothers give their children the pill to get them to sit and be quiet....see, these children nowadays are not disciplined, eat too much sugar and junk, and where are the parents? Working because it takes two to make aliving here now. It goes round and round. When I was young I was hyper and ran and ran....but, when Mom or Dad said sit down and hush....it didn't take me a pill to get myself calmed down again........but my Mom was NOT a working Mom. RIP Mom and Dad鈾?/div> You are most welcome. Thank you for the Best Answer! 鈾? Report Abuse I believe it is real, and after reading up on it for years, I have only met about 6 people that really have ADHD. It is so obvious when you actually meet a kid or adult with it. You are like, what is wrong with that person right away. 1 of my 3 children in the 2nd grade was getting tested to check her development. The teachers said she couldn't spell her own name, and showed me that fact. I was surprised because she was doing it fine 4 years earlier in pre school. I met with a team of teachers, our Dr diagnosed her with ADD and started her on Ritalin 3 days before the meeting. As the meeting started, I was being told that she was to be moved out of her school, and put into a special school with a day class for mentally impaired students. I was then told by the school psychologist that she didn't belive in ADD. Her teacher walked in late, and dropped a pile of Heathers work from the last 3 days on the table. She wrote sentences, and was close to grade level, not 4 years behind like I had just been told. A pill that allows my daughter to show what she knows, and take in what is taught to her, is a miracle no mater what the disbelievers say. She remained in a regular program and wasn't ever hyperactive. By the way, she rebelled at 13, and refused to take it, she was put in the day class permanently. She became pregnant at 15 by a classmate. Guess who is raising her child? 10 hours of speech a week, and the 3 and a half year old still can't say a sentence. ADHD is a real neurological disorder. People with ADHD have a lower level of brain activity in a part of their brains. Some structural differences have also been identified. In the past, children who could not succeed in school, could work on the family farm or some other job which was more ADHD friendly. We now have fewer jobs available which work well for people with ADHD. It is being identified frequently now since we are looking for it, are more sophisticated in our ability to identify it, and also because we make greater demands on younger children than we did in the past. ADHD was first identified over 100 years ago and has been treated with stimulant medications for over 60 years. In fact using stimulants to treat ADHD was the beginning of child psychopharmacology. I have a daughter with ADD (no H!) and once I went through diet changes and behavior management with her she still needed help focusing. She is on the lowest dosage for Focalin and only takes it on school days- her grades and test scores zoomed into A range! I always knew she had the ability to learn and is quite bright, but not being able to focus and absorb created havoc with her learning. well my friend has adhd and its not all hyperactivity with her, but she is v.innatentive and impusive and she can talk for britain lol. some people belive its a myth but i belive it is real some people make it an excuse for bad behaviour and that isnt fair reli, but i no alot more kids are being diagnosed with it and shoved on meds these dayz but alot of them are also being mis-diagnosed!! I believe it is real. Nope, its real...and I do believe more and more people are suffering with it. I would never medicate my child though.* I believe ADHD is real, but I also believe a lot of kids with plain hyperactivity get rolled into it as well. Part of that is probably due to urbanization. Where once there was lots of space to roam, now there's little and it's mostly structured activities. There are two parent working families and teachers with overloaded classrooms. Sometimes parents just go along with the diagnosis, sometimes they don't. On the whole, there also is a greater acceptance of mental disorders, so we hear more about this. There also now is medication. |
