Are there 'different degrees' of ADHD?

I have recently (about a year ago) been diagnosed with adult ADD. I have lived my entire adult life (I'm 45) with a history of job related problems as well as some other possible symptoms. With the onset of problems beginning with my newest job and at the suggestion of my son that this my problem I sought and got a professional diagnosis of ADHD. However reading up on ADHD I see everywhere that ADDers are extremely creative, intelligent, and talented. Many famous people have/had ADD. Whenever I read anything about ADD in the work place the reference is always to some professional or someone working in an office setting. I have no education (save high school), zero talent, zero skills, and zeo creativity. So again, my question: Are there levels of severity of ADHD? I have yet to any information on my extreme level of the disorder.

Footnote: I lost my job yesterday.

Yes, ADHD is an electrical disorder in the brain, there is not enough activity in one part of the brain. The amount of inactivity in the brain varies a lot. There is milder ADHD where you can get by even without medication, there is moderate ADHD where medication is needed to function normally and there is extreme ADHD where even medication is not enough to function normally.

yes there is a broad spectrum of the degree of adhd a person can have
one person can hace adhd so bad that it wrecks their life, while others can live and function w/ a mild degree of it. methylphenidate is usually prescribed for ADD &ADHD. the dosage depends on the severity..

There are varying levels of ADD and ADHD.
My son has it and he is 9 and we have seen different levels with him in his life. He does take medication that helps greatly to keep parts of it under control.

Yes those with ADD & ADHD are extremely creative and smart but there are times when they can't focus on tasks for a long period of time that can lead to many different types of problems in life. .

I am sure within you there is something that you are good at and one thing you could work towards is that as a goal. Most definitely see your doctor to discuss things that are happening in your life that cause issues for you. ADD & ADHD can be helped in a few ways and you have to be willing to work hard at times to do that.

In the work place this can cause issues which are hard to work with unless controlled and honestly medically is the best way to do that. There are many different med's on the market that help with this and my son has been on 2 in 3 years that have helped him but the mg's have to be changed - increased to see what levels work best. Some of them can last a very long time for people and some have to work around med's to see which is best for them and it's all trial and error....

-- I am sorry you lost your job I know that makes life more difficult through this but please go and see your doctor and discuss this with him or her because it is very important for your future....
