When enrolling into a college or university is a background check ran for financial aid?

If you apply for financial aid, you will be required to obtain an Financial Aid transcript from each institution you may have attended. However, if you do not apply for financial aid, most likely the institution that you are attending will not know your financial aid history.

Keep in mind however that when you apply for admission to another institution, you will be required to submit official academic transcripts. If you have either defaulted on a loan or have an outstanding obligation to your former institution, they will not release your transcripts until you make arrangements to clear your obligation.

Absolutely. You will not be given a student loan if you have bad credit and the only way will be to have a co-signer on the loan. My friend recently applied to law school and they ran a check on him. He's borrowing the money from his stepfather now!

A background check is not only run for financial aid, but also for admissions. I'll tell you what I wouldn't want to be in class or rooming with a felon! And with the student loans.. I have good credit and I still needed a cosigner =p

i don't think so, if they did u would be asked to sign a consent for a background check first. i didn't sign any, nor was i asked to. are u asking about like a criminal background check? or a credit check....there's a difference between the two....although they didn't run my credit either...just apply for it, u might be able to qualify for a pell grant (u don't have to repay this if u have a certain gpa, i think u have to keep it above 2.0). fill out a fafsa form and hopefully u will be able to get some help....good luck
