Why is AIDS separated in mention from other STD's?

The only difference is that there's no cure and it's fatal. Sorry for the snafu with posting this question before, there were computer problems on my end.

First: AIDS isn't an STD. It's a complex immunodeficiency arising from HIV, which is an STD. Not all people with HIV have AIDS.

Second: the routes of transmission for HIV are plenty. Accidental needle sticks, intentional drug use, mother to child, and indeed fluid-exchanging sexual activity. While it's relatively difficult to get HIV when using basic protections in life, there's always been a risk- including those who did indeed get HIV because of their hemophilia treatments.

Third, and most important: it's serious but 100% preventable. AIDS is fatal, be it 2 years after hiv+ diagnosis or 40 years after. Many people (estimates ballpark it around 1/3 of those infected) do not even know they are positive. Those people are walking risks to society- not because HIV can be spread through casual contact, but because it can be spread through less-safe sexual contact between uneducated partners.

We can prevent -people dying- using extremely basic tools: needle exhanges, condoms, dental dams, and in the case of exposures, prophylactic anti-retrovirals. Yet... more and more people become infected.

Its not AIDS its HIV; you can only get AIDS if you have HIV.
And because HIV is probably the most serious, as there is no cure; like you said.

"Dwelling on technical differences between HIV and AIDS really isn't necessary, either." Its called getting educated, people should atleast know the correct facts.

Because AIDS is a politically protected disease. It's associated with homosexuality and denial has to remain in effect that AIDS was brought into the world by filth and perversion. Why else do you think that people are always huffy and indignant regarding AIDS? Why aren't they like that regarding gonorrhea or syphillis?

The people below are also in denial. The fact that AIDS is contagious does not prevent it from also being an STD. Dwelling on technical differences between HIV and AIDS really isn't necessary, either.

Well AIDS is not always transmitted sexually. Perhaps that is why. Plus it's the most serious STD you can get. I think it should be separated.

Firstly, coz you can get it through other means (eg. blood transfusion). Secondly, it affects the whole body, whereas most other STDs usually just affect the reproductive system.

AIDS is Not an STD and there is more than a "Technical" difference between HIV and AIDS. Just ask someone living with HIV.

HIV can be transmitted from one person to the other, AIDS can't.

AIDS isn't sexually transmitted. HIV is, which can develop into AIDS.
