What are some memory aids for memorizing the elements? The periodic table? Just remember Mercury comes from the Latin "hydragyrum", so Hg. Sodium is Na. Carbon is C, Nitrogen is N, Oxygen is O, Neon is Ne, Helium is He, Hydrogen is H, Calcium is Ca, Uranium is U, Francium is Fr, Aluminum is Al, Argon is Ar, Boron is B, Tungsten is W, Xenon is Xe, Zinc is Zn, silver is Ag, gold is Au, Molybdenum is Mo, Magnesium is Mg, Manganese is Mn, Nickel is Ni, Iron from the latin Ferrum or Fe, Chlorine is Cl, that is about it, and all you really have to remember! The best way to remember the symbols for the individual elements is to rememeber their Latin names like Ferrum (Fe) for Iron , Aurum (au) for gold ,Argentum (Ag)for silver etc.as the earlier writer (before me) has so comprehensively pointed out. I had to memorize it last year. I made an acronym. All you have to remember is the acronym and the sentence for it. Like CBIT: Charla brought immediate thoughts. It really helped. Good luck. I made a sentence acronym for every group of elements (like alkaline metals etc.) |
