First of all, there is absolutely no scientific evidence to substantiate this premise that shaking hands with the elected leader of Venezuela would turn our democratically elected president into a communist.

Secondly, "bleeding heart liberal" is meant to be a disparaging term used to describe liberals as 'feeling' rather than 'thinking' beings. Ironically, the term is used by those who perceive good manners and compassion as a sign of weakness, and who are themselves driven by emotions rather than logic... as evidenced by the popularity of AM conservative talk radio, steeped in hate and fear mongering. Not very reliable for facts, but it sure gets the blood pumping.

No, Obama is not "aiding the enemy" by exercising basic civility (good manners) with a handshake. It's called DIPLOMACY and it's about time that we, as a country, have diplomatic relations with other countries. Who knows, maybe a little polite behavior on the part of our current president will improve relations so we can have our diplomats in Venezuela again.

Chavez used the Obama meet as cover to avoid international flack for arresting his only significant political rival inside Venezuela. In other words, Obama got played big time. He was used. Likely, the opposition in Venezuela will face a lot more danger now than before because Chavez feels more emboldened. He knows that the US won't intervene to save the lives of the Venezuelan opposition, so when he wants to eliminate them, they are dead.

Obama is not trying to aid the enemy by shaking Chavez hand, but to meet a neutral standing point with him and his country. Obama wants change, and peace is just one of the things that he wishes to accomplish. Though some might say that he is being "anti-american" he will stand tall for America, and to find peace in the world, as well as other problems that plague the world we live in.

Maybe not aiding, but he certainly appeasing. I cannot understand why his supporters actually think that you can negotiate with dictators. Read history libs. It's all right there and it's proven that dictators will stab you in the back....even after they have signed agreements.
