What is the name of a person who dis cove AIDS virus?

Major scientific discoveries are usually made by teams of people rather than single individuals, and those teams of scientists build on the work of other teams of scientists.

However, if there was one person who could be credited with "discovering" the virus which causes AIDS, I'd say it was French virologist Fran莽oise Barr茅-Sinoussi.

She shared the 2008 Nobel prize for medicine and physiology with her boss, Luc Montagnier, and also with Harald Zur Hausen who did important work with HPV and cervical cancer.

In America, Robert Gallo and his team did extremely important work demonstrating that the virus Barr茅-Sinoussi, Montagnier and their team discovered was in fact the cause of AIDS. We now know that virus as "HIV", although the French team initially called it "LAV" and the Americans "HTLV-III".
