Do you feel that people who are HIV positive or have AIDS should be placed on a list? |
Similar to a list for sex offenders, so that potential sex partners will know who they are? Why or why not I think saying that we shouldn't have a list "because they will get discriminated against" is a bit silly. That's the point of having a list -- is to discriminate. Of course NOT! There is a list of sex offenders because those people are convicted predators who have violently preyed upon the vulnerable in their communities. Having HIV is in no way similar to being a sex offender. There is no proof that people with HIV represent any sort of threat to the general community. When two people choose to engage in sexual acts, they BOTH have a responsibility to use appropriate protection, whether they "know" the other person's HIV status or not. And I put know in quotations, because anyone naive enough to trust someone they barely know who says they are negative and then have unprotected sex with that person is a FOOL. The CDC has estimated that 21% of the people in the US who are HIV positive are undiagnosed. So, the fact of the matter is, not even everyone with HIV knows they are positive. In addition the ramifications of making such a list in terms of violation of personal liberty and such would be unbelievable. In conclusion, such an idea is both unfeasible and ethically reprehensible. People are responsible for making their own decisions regarding sex, and the best thing to do is to assume everyone is HIV positive, and protect yourself accordingly! interesting idea . A similar program in cuba where aids paitents are quarteened has worked in so far as it curtailed Aids there however i dont think its pratical here or ethical. i think that many paitents would go underground and not get help to avoid humilation/persecution i also think it could create false security. It is also not needed cause the use of condoms is highly effetive in blocking transmission That isn't far to the few people (like myself) who had no choice (I got it from my birth mother) and had no clue of it. I just found out a year ago because I was pregnant. I was devastated and feared loosing my husband. Luckily my husband and son are both negative but I had no clue. It isn't far to the people who behave and let there partners know of their status. It isn't far for people like me who are trying to live a normal life and build up my future with my husband and my son. If the list was made public then potential employers could get my status and it could effect any future jobs i might be able to get. Some states have "lists" of HIV+ people but they are totally confidential. No I don't think there should be a list that the general population can look at- I think such lists would create fear and more important could lead to "witch hunts' for those who are HIV+. There are to many people out there that react to HIV and would not be logical. So I could see a lot of negative publicity and even harm to those people who are HIV+. I don't think that there should be an std list of any kind I have an std (not AIDS) but I don't want my good name out there to be dragged through the mud because I have one. It would be an invasion of privacy and not practical in the free world. Imagine if some one found out that a person with AIDS was living in their neighborhood. The person with AIDS might get a lot of discrimination or even anonymous hate mail if people around them were very much against people with AIDS. There would be a lot of discrimination going on, even people with AIDS deserve to live their lives as you know there the risk of dying from it. No, that's not fair, no one wants to be HIV poz or have AIDS no one choses this horrible illness, people that are infected have a right to freedom and to live life not to be expose for having a illness that they cant get rid of, would you place someone that dying from cancer on a list?... now passing a law requring people to be tested for HIV.. then yes!!! i know that people should be allowed the freedom to do as they please, but HIV is such a serious problem and we keep looking for a cure so i kind of do think that the first step would be to find them all lol and yes, put them on a list. i think it should be required of people to get tested. |
