If granted legal aid but lose case, who liable to pay costs? |
if costs are awarded to the other party, who is liable to pay them? me or legal aid board? FIRST OF ALL THIS IS NOT LEGAL ADVICE. YOU SHOULD CONSULT YOUR LAWYER TO DETERMINE YOUR RIGHTS AND OBLIGATIONS. Usually, free legal aid only covers the cost of legal service, i.e., the amount you would usually pay to a lawyer. Unfortunately, any cost, EVEN court costs (but virtually all court costs are waived for indigents) will be shouldered by the losing party. I do not know which "costs" you are talking about. But if the other party is awarded "damages" you may be liable. But then again, I do not know what kind of case you are in, so this may not apply. If you are being hauled to court for some debt, you will definitely have to pay for that (or some portion of that amount) if the court finds you liable for it. The best thing for you is to ask your legal aid attorney. Source(s): As a legal intern for a legal aid clinic. You..... legal aid board with a contribution by you according to your means. Surely your solicitor will have explained all this to you. . Depends if a compensation order is made, if not you're covered by the legal aid board. You. Depends--where are you? Criminal case? Civil matter? |
