Car travel with cat - Anyone have expierence with non-prescription calming aids?

The few times I've had to take my cat in the car he always meow's and pee's (which results in a bath and even more stress for the poor baby). I've seen some non-prescription aids in pet catalogs, such as Vita Treat's Pet Calm, and wondered if anyone had tried one that worked well with cats?

Yep you can also use Feliway spray, the artificial pheromone. We tried some of those Pet Calm but the cats refused to eat them.

When you take the cat in the car, are you keeping him in the carrier? You may want to clean the carrier with nature's miracle, which will take away some of the previous smells. You may also want to line the bottom of the carrier with a wee wee pad, like you use when housetraining pups. This will help with pee containment and cleanup.

If the carrier is what is giving him anxiety, you can leave it out around the house, and keep the door open, so it becomes less threatening to him.

Good luck.
"No-Mark!", a spray you can buy at PetCo or PetSmart, has worked well for anxiety in one of my cats. It's a pheromone spray you can spray anywhere - it won't stain. Just spray this stuff in the cat carrier the day before travel, and let it dry. You might also spray it on the back seat of the car.
