Sleeping aids and nightmares?

I have a sample packs from my psychiatrist which are the following: Ambien, Lunesta (haven't tried yet), Rozerem and Restoril. All of the ones I have tried have given me awful nightmares and I am constantly waking up sweating in the middle of the night. I thought I wasn't sleeping before, but now it is just awful. These dreams are very lucid and very real feeling. I Just want to know if anyone has had similar experience and what they did.

Before going to bed, meditate on God some time or read eclectic paragraphs from religious books.
I haven't, but may I suggest not taking them. I suspect you may be having a side affects.

If you are having trouble just getting into a good sleep may I suggest trying the following herbal suppliments: Valerian root or its stronger cousin, Melatonin. Both of these get me out of the unrestful sleep and help give me a good rest the entire night.
