How much should I earn to be eligible for Financial Aid? |
Last year my husband and I earned too much (combined) to be eligible for Financial Aid. This year we are earning much less, especially me, but I'm still not sure what they consider a small enough amount to grant aid. Does anyone here have a general idea? It does depend on what school you are going to. So make sure to ask your financial aid office but I am in Minnesota and last year my parents were expected to pay $16,000 and this year it is $5,000 but even with that big of a difference I still receive nothing because it has to be below $4,000 so my best advice is ask you school because the number could be really low. Another thing that always helps is do your FASFA right after taxes, that is when there is the most $ available. any questions e-mail me Good Luck:) Source(s): personal experience Its does not matter how much you earn to get a student loan, since you have to repay it. You can get the loans. But you do not get the pell grant money (free money) cause of your income being to much. Once you complete the FASFA application online, it will let you know what amount (Your estimated Expected Family Contribution (EFC ) you have to pay out of pocket or get a student loan from your college or university, before you can get the pell grant money. Financial Assistance through the Federal Government is based on more than family income. It is also based on family size, age, number of college students in family. My suggestion: File out the FAFSA and find out what you qualify for regarding funds. You can apply on line at the www.fafsa.ed.gov. Better to apply and be turned down than not know.
