AIDS? HIV Vaccines? |
There are many theories abou the origins of AIDS or HIV fo rthat matter: the green mokey theory, the gay men theory (with no offense to anyone) and etc. But considering modern chmical and biological analysis has yet to find a way to cure AIDS or HIV (laregely because its a retrovirus) have we really gotten that far in teh realm or science also have humans evoloved such that they are now more compatible with AIDS (or HIV) than before. Note. in parts of West Africa there are women that are HIV positive but they do not die (that is they live with HIV and w/o medicine.) Is it possible that human beings will become immune to AIDS or HIV and if so wouldn't it make sense to facilitate the process instead of eradicating teh disease. Note: if we could find a less virulent form of AIDS (or HIV) then couldn't it be applicable like teh smallpox vaccines. The thing about HIV/AIDS is because it affects everyone differently - it would be hard to pinpoint the strength of it. There are many different combinations of treatments and meds depending on a person's body chemistry. You'll have a person who may have it, but won't show symptoms for years - how many years varies from person to person - this may very well be the case with the women in West Africa that you mentioned. In other cases, if you're HIV positive, use crystal meth, and have unprotected sex, not only could you infect your partner, but you could actually catch a extra resistant strain. It's a virus, not unlike the flu. One story that threw me was about prostitutes in Zaire who were having unprotected sex, many of their johns HIV + if not full blown, but the prostitutes were not getting infected, and doctors were trying to figure out why. After tests, they discovered that this group of women had these superior CD4 cells (helper T cells in the immune system) and not only were they treating any infection that would harm the cell, but actually destroying them. So scientists were trying to develop a vaccine with the make up of these killer T cells. For some ungodly reason - they were never able to get clearing for the, even though research on its effect were very positive. AIDS (acquired immune deficiency syndrome) is a viral infection that attacks the immune system, leaving patients extremely vulnerable to deadly infections. It is caused by HIV (human immunodeficiency virus). At present, more than 40 million people around the world are infected with HIV, and 15,000 new infections occur each day. There is no effective vaccine currently available to stop the spread of HIV. The problem with HIV and vaccines is that the virus mutates at a very high rate therefore rendering the vaccine ineffective. There are different clades and strains of HIV but I don't know how much research has been done with vaccine development on each. It is highly unlikely that researchers have not looked at less virulent HIV strains for vaccines. The women you speak of in west African probably have HIV-2 which is less virulent (than the common HIV-1) and endemic to some regions of west Africa. I do know though that there has been a lot of research on some sex workers in Kenya, who seem to be resistant to the disease. Virologist are trying to find out what confers resistance to HIV infection in these women. aids can hide in a person's body for ten years and above... when it strike...a person immuse system all break down...and the person just ill like a cancer patient... for HIV...it strike immediately....I heard that all living things carry HIV...in another word..the day you born to this world, you already carry deadly gene....if you are lucky, this just hide and never happen...if not...it may happen..... most of the time, all this aids and hiv derive from others....own body system do not accept it...and cause war within body!!! human being do have flu virus...but ownself hardly hurt own body...only other's flu virus attack another, he or she may get infected!!! HIV and AIDS confirmed through sex will easily get infected!!! I think the common misconception about HIV/AIDS is that a cure is or will be on the market shortly, so there isn't the cause for alarm we were experiencing 15 years ago. Truth is, there won't be a vaccine/better meds for at least 25-30 years. In the meanwhile, people's risk behaviors have increased because they assume that because the meds are better that they'll just live longer and take loads of pills. Huge misconception. HIV is killing us and living with hiv/aids is far far far from a cakewalk. Note: The women living in Africa with AIDS without medicine probably do not have access to the resources they need. I highly doubt human beings will ever become immune to aids. We are not focusing on eradicating it from the planet as of yet--we haven't even isolated it! We are focusing on prevention. |
