Can anyone recommend a natural sleep aid? |
I am a busy professional with lots on my plate - all the time! I have been having trouble winding down to sleep, and more over, staying asleep. Does anyone have any recommendations of a natural product? If you can find the time, exercise is a fabulous aid to sleep - your brain is active all day, and your body needs to lose excess energy too. There are a few herbal preparations available - Kalms are quite good but take a couple of weeks to be effective. Drinking warm milk ( believe it or not!) also helps - some chemical thing. No coffee after 2pm, quit smoking, no fizzy caffeinated drinks, sugary desserts or alcohol ( all are stimulants) - boring as hell I know but these things will work! Good luck Jx Source(s): Lifelong insomnia!! chamomile tea is an excellent herbal sleep aid, you can purchase it in the tea section of your grocery store self, MSW Check out Melatonin, it's a natural chemical your body produces to get you to sleep. I used to use Advil/tylenol pm and always felt groggy and not refreshed. Then my dr said to quit taking those and try Melatonin. Oh my, you don't realize you aren't getting good sleep until you finally do...I won't use anything else. The good thing about it is that once you use it for a few days, your body starts a schedule so you don't have to use it every night forever or be dependent on it. Melatonin is the hormone released in the brain that lets you sleep and it is also on the market but it is not to be used for long-term. Valerian is another that when mixed with chamomile in a tea that you can drink before bed time to help you relax before you try to go to sleep, hope this helps. There's something called melatonin, you can get it at GNC, I heard it orks, but never used it before. There's also Valerian Root, you can also get it at GNC, I've tried it before and it does not work for me, but I've heard it works for many others. I love chamomile tea it's very nice, you can get this at about any grocery store. |
