First aid when bitten by a dog? 1) Remain calm, Don't Panic. Ensure the safety of rescuers and the victim- locate the victim, locate the dog, assess hazards in environment, treat hazards by locking dog in bathroom etc. 2) Put pressure directly onto the wound. Apply absorbent dressings and continue to add based on bleed through. Do not remove the dressing even if they become soaked, add more. Continue providing direct pressure. 3) If possible elevate the bitten part above the heart. 4) Seek emergency medical treatment based on severity of bite. Call 911 if unable to provide treatment yourself or need further intervention. Seek the advice of a doctor within 24hrs of a bite or immediately if signs of infection are present. Seek public health advice in the event of a wild, stray or non-vaccinated animal bite or strange behavior in the animal with regards to the bite. Source(s): medic training Go to the ER if it is a bad bite, if it is a strange dog or a dog without a current rabies shot. Otherwise clean the wound, apply antibiotic ointment and a bandage. Watch the would for signs of infections (redness, swelling, heat from the wound). If it's a big dog, go to the hospital. You could get a bad fever and infection and possibly die. GO TO THE HOSPITAL NOW! |
