Recently married, we both want to go to school, financial aid available? |
Hi my husband and i recenlty married in july of this year...we're both going to school this fall...when i was single, financial aid pretty much covered ALL my classes..now that im married...will financial aid be less..hubby makes roughly 45k year...thanx S and Ellen are not quite right. If you already filed your FAFSA, you financial aid will be based only on your financial data for 2006. If you haven't filed your FAFSA and must do so now, you have to include your and your husband's financial data for 2006 because the question on the FAFSA is "as of this date are you married". When you answer "yes" to that question, we look for your spouse's data...even if you didn't file your taxes together. And yes, next year, you will definitely require your husband's financial data on the FAFSA and it will likely make a difference in the amount and type of aid for which you are eligible. luckily it won't affect this year as most financial aid is based on your last income tax return, and you were still single then. Your 2007-2008 package will be based on your 2006 income tax data, so you should be fine for this year. Next school year you may be offered fewer need-based grants. However, the amount you are offered in federal Stafford loans does not depend on income. Here is an excellent site with some wonderful options 4 U. Check it out鈥︹€?. http://lnk.in/54ba Yes now a days many financial aid are availaible. You just have to apply online and wait for the time and see if you get some help.
