Can xanax be used and prescribed as a sleep aid?

Not really. It may make you sleepy for a few days, but not long term. In addition its half life is such that it leaves the body very quickly, therefore you cant sleep a long time with it.
It would be better to get some type of sleeping pill prescribed by your doctor.
