What are the symtoms of AIDS?

ok.. everyone should be informed about this. Not that i have it.. o maybe..who knows.

Most of the answers are either incorrect or lacking in specifics, so here goes:

AIDS is a syndrome. Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome. A syndrome is a collection of symptoms that point to an underlying disease.

When HIV (the virus that attacks the immune system causing AIDS) has weakened the immune system to a such a point that it is unable to fight off basic infections, a person would move from being HIV+ to having AIDS.

There are many different illneses (infections/cancers) that are called "AIDS-defining illnesses" or opportunistic infections. If a person with HIV has one of these infections/cancers s/he is said to have AIDS.

The opportunistic infections all have different symptoms as they are completely different diseases.

I think you may be referring to symptoms of HIV infection (not AIDS). In that case,

There are 4 basic stages of HIV disease (acute/primary infection, asymptomatic infection, symptomatic infection and AIDS)

In acute/primary infection a patient MAY experience acute retroviral syndrome usually 2-4 weeks after intial infection but the symptoms are usually non-specific or mild and usually clear up. In most people the symptoms last for 1 week, 2 weeks, and rarely last several months. The symptoms are:
-fever (>80% experience this)
-muscle/joint pain, rash, persistent swollen lymph nodes, sore throat, fatigue, headache (~40-80% experience this)
-oral ulcers and /or genital ulcers, >5kg weight loss, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea (10-40%)
Most of these symptoms can be easily misdiagnosed as a stomach flu or some other disease. Most physicians not aware, will miss these as acute HIV symptoms, and most people wouldn't even waste their time going to the doctor, as the acute retroviral syndrome goes away on its own!

Asymptomatic Stage (no symptoms) lasts on average 8-12 years. No outward symptoms, however persistent generalized swollen lymph nodes is usually present and a low platelet count in the blood may be present.

Symptomatic Infection - once HIV has weakened the immune system to a certain degree, a person will experience
a variety of symptoms. Not everyone gets all of these symptoms!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And they aren't necessarily present all of the time....HIV Disease is like a roller coaster (up and down) as far as health goes. Possible symptoms:
-oral hairy leukoplakia (rarely seen without HIV infection)
-unexplained fever >2weeks
-fatigue/lethargy
-extreme night sweats....dehydration
-unexplained weightloss >10% of body weight
-chronic diarrhea >3 weeks
-unexplained swollen lymph nodes (usually generalized)
-cervical dysplasia (from HPV infections)
-difficulty breathing and dry cough
-loss of vision
-recurrent or chronic oral, esophageal, vaginal yeast infections/thrush (candida albicans)
- red/purple nodular skin or mucosal lesions (Kaposi sarcoma)
-Encephalopathy
-herpes zoster (shingles), especially if severe or disseminated (various places across body)
-increase frequency or severity of mucotaneous herpes simplex virus infection
-uneplained anemia.

Once a person develops one of the opportunistic infections/AIDS defining illnesses, they are said to have AIDS. It would take too long to provide the symptoms of each of the OIs, so I will just list the OIs. They are:
-recurrent bacterial pneumonia
-thrush/yeast infection IN ESOPHAGUS OR LUNGS not just in the mouth
-invasive cervical cancer
-Coccidiodomycosis (outside of lungs)
-Cryptococcus (outside of lungs)
-Cryptosporidiosis (chronic intestinal infection)
-Cytomegalovirus (CMV) active infection outside of liver, spleen or lymphnodes
-CMV retinitis (loss of vision)
-HIV-related encephalopathy (dementia)
-Chronic Herpes simplex infection (chronic ulcers or bronchitis, pneumonia, or esophagitis) Not run of the mill cold sores.
-Isoporiasis (chronic intestinal infection)
-Kaposi sarcoma (cancer)
-Lymphoma (Burkitt, immunoblastic, primary in brain) cancer
-Mycobacterium avium complex (disseminated outside of lungs)
-any mycobacterium with disseminated infection oputside of lungs including Tuberculosis
-pnemocystis jirovecci (formerly p carinii) pneumonia
-progressive multifocal leukoencepohalopathy
-recurrent salmonella septicemia (blood infection)
-toxoplasmosis of the brain
-wasting syndrome due to HIV

hmmm i dont like the look of question

and i dont know the answer becuase...................

I DONT HAVE AIDS!!!!!
AIDS symptoms result in conditions that do not affect people with normal immune systems. Therefore, people who have AIDS will be more susceptible to certain infections caused by bacteria, viruses, and fungi. Since AIDS affects every organ system, people who have it will experience a greater risk of getting certain cancers. Also, people will experience fevers, sweats, weakness of the muscles, chills, and weight loss.
. no immune system : u diresctly get any disease
thats the only sumtom i know
lol... most of your answers are pretty bad.... I doubt this is a real question, but for anyone who actually wants to know the answer I will answer for them. AIDS as most repeated what the actual letters stand for is an AUTO Immune Deficiency and the Key symptom of AIDS is the first opportunistic infection in those with HIV+. The most common infection is PCP (pnemo Cystic Pnumonae, excuse the spelling it is late at night. What you probably want o know is what are the symptoms of HIV, because AIDS itself doesn't present with the symptoms, it is the infections you incur with aids that present the clinical picture. Increased weakness is a common symptom of HIV but it can also be present with absolutely no symptoms. If you find yourself constantly sick, I would get checked out. You don't have to be gay or use drugs to get aids. A sexual partner who is straight and had it from drugs or blood teransfusions is easily passed to you also. It is easy to spread and can no longer be classified as a druggie or gay person's disease. They are still the main risk factors, but doesnt mean that is the only way you can get it. I don't care if you pick one of these other answers as the best, I just didn't want a lot of false information out there.
