Can anyone recommend/list some brands of available over the counter hearing aids? There is no such thing. It would be the equivalent of purchasing two magnifying glasses and taping them over your eyes to see better. A hearing loss is a complex thing. There are different types of hearing loss (mixed, conductive or sensorineural). There are different severities of loss which can differ at different frequencies. The dynamic range of a patient varies widely which significantly affects the fitting range for a hearing aid. A modern digital hearing aid needs to take all of these parameters into account, while simultaneously amplifying only the most useful sounds in the most appropriate manner for the patient. Gone are the days when all sound was just made louder in order to try and improve hearing. The only successful way to correct a hearing loss is to be tested by a trained and qualified hearing professional. You then need to be fitted with hearing instruments designed and programmed to match your hearing loss. Anything you buy over the counter is money down the drain. Not sure i can.... I didn't know there was such a thing. Try talking to your doctor for suggestions. Yeah, heres a neat trick to gaining hearing I learned a while back, what you do is go to the store and buy a reem of paper, and some sealing wax. And what you do is roll the paper into a cone, and then seal it with the above mentioned wax. repeat if you need two and stick into ears and run around and go huh alot. Oh, one thing I forgot to mention is that if you use two of these devices it might be difficult to get through some doorways, and other spaces, I take no responsibility for injuries occured when using said method. OTC hearing aids are worth about what you pay for them (which is not much). If you have a hearing loss that is significant enough to require an aid, you need to go to a diagnostic audiologist, have a full assessment done of your hearing loss, and find out exactly which hearing aids are recommended for your type of loss. |
