Laws about first aid, CPR, & AED? |
I was just wondering the laws dealing with removing a victims clothes to administer first aid, or especially AED if necessary. Especially dealing with using and AED on a female. I am a junior at our local volunteer fire department and hear alot about that in medical calls. Some people actually threaten to sue some of our EMTs for molestation. Are there any laws to defend this (such as the Good Samaritan Law)? Also for any other fire or EMS personnel, what is the radio code for removing a victims clothing? Maybe its just a local thing, but we learned one during disaster treeage training, I just forgot.... I know this is kind of an awkward question, but I was just curious Laws vary by state, as do protocols for dealing with this type of situation. With regard to first responders, their departments will most likely have specific policies on this sort of thing, tailored to conform to their state's law. As to radio codes, each locality has its own variation. Check with your department. If you've forgotten something from training, tell your chief - he'll be glad you were honest enough to seek a refresher. And there's nothing awkward about the questions - they're quite sensible. There are Good Samaritan laws, but they are being narrowly construed to only protect activities required in a verified medical emergency... But laws vary by state, so check your local listings. |
