Acupuncture painful?

I have had chronic neck and head pain for 3 yrs and have tried everything else to no avail. I decided to seean acupunctrist and it helped a little but the acupucnture itself makes me soooooo anxious because it hurts. I get these "shocks" from the needles and she is hooking them up to electric stimuli things. I hate it!!!!!!!! Is it supposed to be like this?

yes.. it is uncomfortable. you should discuss this with your acupuncturist and she might not use the electrodes next time. how was your relief afterwards anyway?

Oh I hope not, cause I wanted to try acupuncture for seasonal allergies, as someone suggested to me...

it can be in certain spots though normally it isn't and even when it is it's way less then a needle... you will feel almost a high after you go.

i totally recommend it!

oh the shock things... that can be awkward... you can ask him no to do that... traditional acupuncture is done with out shocks.

i had acupuncture done and the first time i went it hurt like hell and i hated it. i spoke to my acupuncturist and he said it hurt because i wasn't relaxed enough because i hate needles. he showed me some relaxation techniques before my next session, things like thinking about my breathing and how to put my mind in my favourite place etc ,this really helped i never felt the needles again and nine times out of ten i was so relaxed i fell asleep. talk to you acupuncturist and ask them to help you relax before your next session. hope this helps

Acupuncture should NOT be painful! Let your therapist know if you are having ANY discomfort.
The electric stimuli things can be adjusted so there is no pain!

If your therapist doesn't understand find a new one!
