Acupuncture for ashthma?

Has anyone ever tried acupuncture to help with their asthma symptoms and how have the results been?

there is not clinical evidence that acupuncture works for anything...i am asking if anyone has tried this and what the results are. Don't put your 2 cents in if you have no idea.

First, I will state that I am a practicing acupuncturist. However, I had been going to an acupuncturist for 3 years prior to starting my graduate degree and board certification process.

I have mild Asthma that I use acupuncture to treat. Generally, there are two times during the year where I notice it flare up, Spring and Fall. When I just start building up symptoms (ie- tightness, wheezing, itching, etc) I immediately start a course of treatment. There is usually an immediate effect on the tightness I feel and a lessening of my other symptoms. The duration of these effects are short-lived to begin with because it requires time to build upon the treatment process.

Acupuncture is a therapy process, just like P.T. It requires a course of treatments. It is not a cure all for everything and everyone. Nothing is. You should allow for 4-6 treatments before determining if acupuncture is effective for you.

Matt A, did make a good point of discovering your triggers and attempting to avoid them, however, that can be easier said than done.

There is no clinical evidence that acupuncture will help asthma. Remember, asthma is an allergy. The best non medication way to prevent asthma is to learn what your asthma triggers are and avoid them.
