Acupuncture opinions??

i rescued a pit x puppy a week ago. vet estimates her to be 7 months. but she has an old break. at some point her pelvic bone was broken and not treated. it's causing a little trouble, but both my vet and the Orthopedic vet said to rebreak it and set her in a cast for maybe 3 months would be excruciating for her. they both think with proper nutrition and excercise to build the muscles up, her mobility will get better. but i'm toying with the idea of acupuncture. it's kind of pitiful when the bad leg tangles with the good one and she stumbles. although i've seen improvement in the last 2 days. has anyone had acupuncture done for their dogs? why and what were the results? as soon as the weather improves we'll be swimming and i'm looking into one of those "aqua" treadmills. that will help my seniors too.
thanks in advance

PITT: i know. i'm going to try and upgrade this week.

IGGY: her name is HOPE. because there's always HOPE. and i hoped she'd be ok.

What a great idea! I think that would be great for her. If I could afford something like that, I'd do it in a heart beat!!

You need to email me pictures already...I've been VERY patient!! :)

I would give it a try, and see how well it works for her, and take it from there.

Keep me posted!

While I haven't personally tried it, I have several friends who have. If it can help with spay incontinence and arthritic problems, then it may help your pup.

Keep in mind, acupuncture is sorta like going to a chiropractor for humans. At first, you may have to go several times a week, then you can taper off your appointments. (That analogy was given to me by a doctor recently when we discussed acupuncture for me.)

Swimming and aqua treadmilling will be great for building her back up. You might try looking up some info on canine sports medicine. It may give you some other ideas of exercises that can help strengthen specific areas of the body.

I have only seen one dog with this technique and it worked to relieve the pain and some of the walking problems, however, it did not heal the bones, so the surgery while painful and would repair the bone, I would try the acupuncture first and see how it goes and then I would let the vet fix it up good and right..

she would be in pain for awhile, I know, but I think the surgery is the right way to go.....you cant keep a dog on acupuncture forever........but I have heard good things about it also

I want to thank you for caring about your dog so dang much..most people would not even consider an alternative way to fix the poor dog.......hooray for you....

good luck, and let me know how she does okay, please, you can email me anytime you want.....

pet the baby for me okay, she will be fine

oh and the aqua treadmill sounds great, but the dogs will love it......what did you name your pit

and thanks so much for giving this little dog a new loving home.......god bless you.....
