How many treatments of acupuncture do you need for menstrual cramps? ?

I get horrible cramps and I have tried everything. They get so bad that I cant even stand up when they are really bad. I've never had acupuncture before and I am seriously thinking about trying it for the cramps but is it something that can ease them in one treatment or will i need several? I only have the cramps for a few days so would if I would need more then one treatment, would I have to go everyday? How soon do you feel better?

I would suggest consulting a local acupuncturist. From here, we would just be blindly guessing without being able to see more than someone can see in person, plus it also depends on their experience and skill. It might be 2-3 treatments, it might be several, but unfortunately, there are too many variables to diagnose online. Good luck!

Acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine can help in relieving menstrual cramping. You will definitely need more than just one treatment though. Acupuncture is a therapy process that does take an investment of time.

In the states, most acupuncturists will want to see you once or twice a week. You would likely notice a decrease in the severity of cramps during menses after the first month of treatment. However, everyones' health and responses are different, so it is possible you would have no cramps. If you were to notice no significant changes after 8 weeks, then Acupuncture may not be the treatment strategy for your condition.

If you are in the states you can find a qualified acupuncturist through the http://www.nccaom.org locator function

There is no quality evidence that acupuncture has any effect at all on menstrual cramps. Do a search on the Cochrane database.

The underlying premise of acupuncture is mystical nonsense.
