Acupuncture.. does anyone out there know about it?

what training do acupuncture recieve or what is it you need to know to take up this occupation??
What qualifications do you need??
to register do you need to be regulated by a professional??

I cannot speak for other countries, but here is some general info on the United States.

Most states within the United States regulate acupuncture through certification or licensure. Requirements do vary slightly state to state, however, most require national board certification through the National Certification Commission of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (NCCAOM). California is one exception; they have their own system.

To sit for the national board exam applicants must be enrolled and complete an accredited education program, usually a graduate level program.

Depending on the state determines if you can treat patients on your own, if you have to practice under another primary care physician, or if you can only treat based on a doctor's referral.
