Acupuncture?

Does it work?
Can it cause serious damage if the, uh, needler doesn't quite know his stuff?

I believe in it! My major proof is that we had it done on my dog when he had bad arthritis. When he first started going he could hardly walk after the end of his treatment he was like a puppy again.

I worked with people who did it also and have had it done for minor things like a cold and it has worked. Good luck!

I would make sure you go to someone who is licensed and knows what they are doing.
There are risks with any medical treatment.

I've been undergoing acupuncture for over a year for eczema, stress, and muscle tension. My acupuncturist has been very effective in reducing my eczema and relieving my muscle/stress problems. She combines her needle treatments with prescribed Chinese herbs.

Results vary from person to person of course, and there's no way to tell how you'd benefit (or not) from it. The best place to start is to ask your doctor what he/she thinks about it as an alternative to your current treatment. Even if your doctor recommends against it (which is not likely), give yourself the option of research. Ask people you know if they can recommend an acupuncturist, and research on the internet. Usually acupuncturists will publish or offer references and their education/experience. If they don't have a web site, call them and ask for this info.

Once you narrow down the choices, see if they offer free initial consultations to check them out. Use your gut instinct to help you judge whether the acupuncturist will be a good fit for you. If you "interview" all of them and still don't feel confident, put off seeing one for treatment until you meet more of them and feel secure.

If you decide to see one, be sure to see if your health insurance will cover it (just so you'll know). My acupuncturist doesn't file on my behalf. Instead, she offers to provide a receipt that I would have to file myself.

Good luck with your search. I hope you'll receive a lot of benefit if you choose to see an acupuncturist.
I truly believe in this treatment...
I work in surgery & stand on my feet and suffer extremely painful plantar fasciitis on my left foot.
I had several treatments of this done and it worked wonders for me. Not to mention that I felt a wonderful sense of "being", or calm, you might say after each treatment. It just rejuvinates you...a nice plus to relieving the pain; which is the reason for trying it in the first place right? Go for it! It does take a couple/few treatments though; be patient...
Find a master therapist. Someone who has had training in china. That way you will have more faith in the person with the needles. Personally I've had treatments with three people. One of them was a nurse with training in the US only. The treatment worked. The second was also trained in the US but has more extensive knowledge of the body and how it works. The third was trained in China. He knew how to do pulse diagnosis along with acupuncture. Find the one who best suites your need.
Yes it works.

No there is no dangerous side effects if the accupuncturist does not put the needle in precise locations. If the accupuncturist misses the accupuncture point; the needle will neither help or harm you.

the needles only go about 1/8th of an inch deep.
