Is acupuncture an evidence-based therapy? |
Does it rely on already proven science or not? Can it be considered as placebo? There is little evidence for it, but more than for most other forms of so called alternative medicine. (aka SCAM) In some people there is an effect from both regular acupuncture and sham acupuncture...so much for all those meridians and chakra points. There is a "gate theory" explanation for how it might work. The thing with all SCAM....if they actually worked, all doctors would adopt them and they would no longer be "alternative" It works.. but you are the best judge..try it. If done right it is good, but like mechanics there are good and bad ones out there..you should try ACCUPRESSURE on your feet as it is amazing to have the feet massaged and it is so relaxing too..all the muscles go into a newness if there is such a word...YES I LOVE IT.... no,it is very good up to my knowldge is like a placebo. the national institutes for health (NIH) gives some attention to acupuncture. to my knowledge they have a division - something like an experimental category. some of their clinical trials have an acupuncture focus!!! good news for fans of acupuncture it seems! you can read up by going to http://nccam.nih.gov/health/acupuncture/... http://consensus.nih.gov/1997/1997acupun... |
