Acupuncture has proven efficacy for anesthesia, mediated via neural adjacency of the nerve endings, and mapped in parallel by the meridians posited by eastern medicine.

However, as obesity was not an issue in traditional Chinese medicine, this is not covered in traditional textbooks. It would have to be demonstrated that nerve stimulation causes apoptosis (destruction) of adipose tissue, or size reduction of the giant lipid molecules within adipocytes.
