Can ACUPUNCTURE help the following diseases/disorders? |
Hi all! :) I have the following conditions: - ADHD (mainly the attention deficit part) - asthma - acid reflux/GERD - meralgia paresthetica I'm a big believer in "alternative" treatments like chiropractic, acupuncture, acupressure, herbalism, reiki, etc. I'd love to try acupuncture because I've heard so many good things about it, but unfortunately I can't afford it right now. :( I can barely afford my chiropractor and my regular HMO medical plan, but I won't give those up! At any rate, I suspect it could probably help ALL of my conditions at least somewhat, but I'm wondering if anyone here can tell me which of the conditions stand the best chance of being helped by acupuncture? Also -- and this is a long shot -- if anyone knows of an inexpensive but GOOD acupuncturist in the Silicon Valley/South Bay Area of California, please tell me who it is! :) Thanks! P.S. For those who've no idea what meralgia paresthetica is, click here: http://www.emedicine.com/neuro/topic590.... The beauty of acupuncture (particularly five element, or traditional acupuncture) is that they will treat YOU - the person, not your disease labels or symptoms, so that all of these conditions will get addressed. There is also a great deal that you can do for yourself such as nutrition and herbs - get some good books - many can be found at libraries! This is especially true for asthma and acid reflux. A doctor For the ADHD, meditate For asthma, L-Arginine or coffee. Coffee promotes the growth hormone arginine Arginine is such a reliable GH releaser that it is used to test for GH deficiency in children. Arginine also promotes nitrous oxide which relaxes blood vessels and it's full of antioxidants. Relaxed blood vessels promotes better breathing. For acid reflux/GERD: try papaya supplements For meralgia paresthetica: If caused by mechanical factors, such as compressive clothing, belts, obesity, and pregnancy. Try wearing loose clothes, lose the belt and the weight or have that baby. I try and avoid more medications, as I have many problems by being over medicated for so long. My condition is terminal, where as these may be treated. I have had acupuncture for eight herniated discs in my spine. Ouch! It did absolutely nothing, but run up a huge bill. I do herbal remedies when at all possible and I hope you at least try them. Good health to you! "The National Council Against Health Fraud has concluded: Acupuncture is an unproven modality of treatment. Its theory and practice are based on primitive and fanciful concepts of health and disease that bear no relationship to present scientific knowledge Research during the past 20 years has not demonstrated that acupuncture is effective against any disease. Perceived effects of acupuncture are probably due to a combination of expectation, suggestion, counter-irritation, conditioning, and other psychologic mechanisms. http://www.quackwatch.org/01quackeryrela... |
