Can Acupuncture be considered Occupational Therapy?

I've wanted to get acupuncture for quite some time now. Without insurance it鈥檚 a little on the expensive side.
I was trying to see whether my insurance had 鈥榩roviders鈥?licensed to practice acupuncture. I wasn鈥檛 sure what to search under on their website.

They had several options such as:

Occupational Therapy
Occupational Medicine
Physical Therapy

The short answer is No...occupational therapy is a specialty of it's own and licensed by each individual state. It is geared toward functional activities of daily living (ADL's) such as bathing, dressing, eating and designed to reteach these skills.

Accupuncture is a specialty that is unique to alternative therapies and does not fall under OT or PT. Occupational Medicine refers to an MD who is board certified in this area related to employee health.

No an occupational therapist looks at the way the human body moves and suggests ways to improve performance and prevent injury. ie.: using a wrist rest when you are using a keyboard.
Physical therapy is using exercises etc. to improve an injury or for strength.
Sorry I don't know what accupuncture would be classified as but I know that some Chiropracters have accupuncture qualifications.
SOME CHIROPRACTORS ALSO DO ACCUPUNTURE. DO A SEARCH FOR THIS AND FIND OUT.
In some states, PTs can perform accupuncture if special training has been taken. Most likely, though, you could find a chiropractor who would do it.
