Has anyone ever tried acupuncture...if so, how long did the treatment's effects last?

i use it 2 or 3 times a year. the sessions last 2 or 3 hours, and the effects last several months
My mom did acupuncture when she wanted to quit smoking. She quit for 7 months before she started again. When she did start smoking again though, she used to get really sick and said that they tasted horrible.
*She started again b/c she had gained some weight, but it was b/c of her medication and not from not smoking. She wasn't having "cravings" or anything like that.
