What do you think about acupuncture? |
in conjunction with..cognative therapy, and basic GAD disorder? ( general anxiety disorder)? Acupuncture is not B.S. nor a matter of faith. I'm not saying so because I'm of Chinese-origin. I was very skeptical of it before because I grew up in the U.S., and received advanced degrees in the biological sciences. But after having personal experience with acupuncture recently with my tennis elbow and carpal tunnel syndrome, I can say that it is a good way to reduce inflammation and pain. But it is not a one-time cure. Usually several sessions are needed in order to get the complete benefit. But if you have a very good acupuncturist who has been well-trained, you should be able to experience noticeable improvement right after your first treatment. I have known a couple of people who suffered from GAD and got very good results with acupuncture together with talk therapy. They used acupuncture as a way of coming off some anti-anxiety medications (some SSRIs) more gradually, and as a way of maintenance. It's a good supplemental treatment option to discuss with your therapist. Of course, as with all branches of medicine, there are good doctors and bad doctors in acupuncture and Chinese medicine. Do your research and ask reliable sources for a recommendation (starting with your therapist). Hope this helps. I don't believe in it at all !! It's B.S ...hence the chinese thought of it ! I had it done in my elbow because my knee was in alot of pain ( go figure) .....took the pain away for 3 minutes ...walked out the door ...pain came back ! Then .....i was having trouble with late menstrual cycles ...doc said get it done everyday in my lower abdominal ......didn't work - my period still has not come ! So i think it's garbage and a waste of time and money ! personal opinion my opinon which means nothing is that its all in the mind if you go in thinking its not going to work chances are it wont hmm you can try it.. but you should find a really good acupunturist.. there are so many that are fakes.. and its hard to tell which are real... ++ acupunture is not b.s the chinses still use it to numb people before surgury... instead of using medicine.. I have never had this and i don't think i will even have it it looks horrible but people say that it is great but would not recommended it=) 2/2/07 On "Science Friday" (can be found at sciencefriday.com) there was a segment that began into the second hour about brains (regeneration/plasticity) that could tie into your question. Talk therapy is one I have had success with for my children. Unknown with the others. If (long shot) the underlying cause is low-level pain that you may not even be aware of - a resource to check out is a book called The Trigger Point Therapy Workbook by Davies (written for the average interested person). |
