Seasonal Allergies: sneezing, rhinorrhea, and itchy nose/palate/throat, itchy/watery/red eyes? |
Do you know if seasonal allergies can be eliminated by moving to another type of climate, if one lives in a climate with allergens year-around? Thanks, any comments helpful. Allergies: it's an environmental triggers (pollen, dust) problem, isn't that so? I don't believe I have any IgE allergies. Elle: Seasonal allergy is caused by pollens produced by grasses and trees. These pollens are very light, are white, and are carried by the air. If you have ANY allergy, your body produces human immunoglobulin E ( IgE) as a result of exposure and this is what triggers the mast cells to produce histamine. So I am not sure what you mean by "no IgE allergy" since all true allergies are the result of IgE. Chances are, if you are allergic to the pollens in your area you will become sensitive to the pollens in other areas you move. For example, when I lived in Texas I had allergies to pecans and cottonwoods..two trees very common in the area I lived. When I moved to Florida, my pollen allergies disappeared at first because there are no pecans and no cottonwoods in my area. But, after 6 months the pollen allergy returned and now I can add palms (especially the robellini and queen) and maleluca (tea tree) to my list. If you want to monitor pollen counts, I am including a link to a site that gives you a current pollen map for the US. Watch it over the course of a year. As for dealing with living where you are, the best course of action is to stay inside, keep doors and windows closed and run your HVAC with a MERV8 filter or better. Keep pets inside, as they bring in pollens on their fur. Damp days have the lowest pollen counts (rain washes airborne pollen away). Avoid being outside early in the morning and late in the day and anytime on a windy day. These are when pollen counts are the highest. If you must be out for long, as soon as you come inside, take a shower, wash your hair, and change your clothes because you will be loaded with pollen. If you must have your windows open, use those special screens to keep the pollen out. Personally, I just keep mine closed, but will give you a link on them. try Claritin and follow up with your allergist. I don't think there is really anywhere that is pollen free. I live in northern Ohio and while I don't deal with allergies sept - march the rest of the year is hell. Stupid trees. I take a look at pollen.com and try to gauge my level of misery for the day. I do take medication, but sometimes it's just too bad out. I think the south gets it much worse and they generally have pollen year around. At least I get 7 months off without. Many / most Allergy Sufferers " Think " that they only have Seasonal allergies.... because it is the Seasoonals that Tip the misery Boat... |
