Dog allergies. Need advice, girlfriend of 7 months won't help out and she has a dog.?

Basically, I always have known I am allergic to dogs and have been lucky enough to get a miniature schnauzer which doesn't really effect my allergies at all.... Partly due to my mothers fanatic cleaning and the fact that they are not that bad with allergies. For the past 7 months I have been dating someone seriously that has a French bulldog. That dog simply kills my allergies. He lives in her room because it's her dog and her family doesn't want to deal with him. My asthma has been terrible and I need to bring an inhaler every time I go over, even though I'm on singulair and zyrtec. The doctor got my blood work back today and said that I am dangerously allergic to dogs that shed. I would never consider asking her to choose me over the dog.. I just mentioned on the phone that I can personally buy a couple of things to help out my allergies. I said I could buy some fabreeze w/ the allergens, some special shampoo for her dog, a filter for her room, I could brush the dog, and even vacuum.

I said I would do everything vacuuming spraying etc.. just to not inconvenience her. Then she goes and tells me that she doesn't understand why she has to change anything just because I have allergies. I'm pretty furious right now and taken back. I offered to pay for everything and do everything... this is my health were talking about here.....
*On another note... I'm just as allergic to dust and she does not vacuum or dust or clean her room what so ever.....

You know, I think you are getting the message from on high that this relationship is not the one for you to pursue. At least, not in her room along with the dog. In case you missed it, asthma is not something to be trifled with, and if you keep pushing the system like you are doing, one day that inhaler may not be enough to help you. The dog won't just kill the allergies, the asthma might just kill you. You shouldn't be going anywhere near that room, Febreze or no Febreze, shampoo, filter and all the rest. If your girlfriend can't wrap her head around the idea, and meet you on neutral, dogless territory, then you will have to part company. You don't have to ask her to choose the dog or you- you have to meet elsewhere, without the dog. That's pretty simple, I would think. If she isn't willing to do that, then you have your answer and your solution all wrapped up.

Your health should be more important to her then anything. Especially if you are offering to buy everything and even do the cleaning. Maybe you need to take a look at your relationship and decide if she really does care about you as much as you think she does. That is really not right of her at all. That is being selfish.

Dump her. She is very inconsiderate. People without allergies just don't understand. This is your health you are talking about. I am super allergic and my husband knows we can't have pets even though he would love a dog. He is also the one to deal with the heavy dust behind furniture, cleaning out the dryer trap, etc. because he knows how bad it is for me.

If you are the one brushing, washing and vacuuming it is going to make the allergy attack that much worse.
